EG and Team Secret secure their spots at TI6

EG and Team Secret have made some last-minute roster changes that violated Valve’s roster lock rule, which resulted in both teams having to go through the Open Qualifiers for a chance to participate in The International 2016. Each team has successfully managed to climb through the Open Qualifiers and then win the Regional Qualifiers in their respective region.

Team Secret has won the European Regional Qualifiers group stage after a three-way tiebreaker and is the first team from the EU region to qualify for The International 6. The European best of one group stage ended with Team Secret, Escape Gaming (ex NoDiggity) and Fantastic Five tied on six points, which meant that only a tiebreaker between the teams could determine who will qualify for TI6. Eventually, Team Secret managed to beat both teams thanks to great drafting and stellar performances from Artour 'Arteezy' Babaev and secured their ticket to Seattle.

Escape Gaming and Fantastic Five will have another shot at securing a spot at TI in the qualifiers playoffs. The second regional qualifiers stage will start on June 27 at 10:00 CEST with second to fifth place finisher teams placed in a double elimination bracket. The winner will qualify for TI6 and the runner up will advance to the Wild Card competition.

Meanwhile, Evil Geniuses triumphed in the North American Regional Qualifiers. In comparison to the very close games of EU qualifiers, where fan favorites Team Secret seemed to face elimination numerous times, EG seemed to roll over the competition in the NA qualifier, most games ending around the 20 minute mark. But EG made a fatal misstep in their match against compLexity Gaming, which resulted in a tiebreaker.

On a quest to take revenge and secure their invite EG went with a draft that smartly utilized the strengths of this patch with Clint 'Fear' Loomis on the Sven and PPD on the Vengeful Spirit. Ultimately, it seems EG learned from their mistakes in the first game, as they made short work of the coL squad who couldn't seem to find the engagements they could win.

CompLexity's journey to TI6 does not end here. They will join Digital Chaos, Void Boys, and FDL in the Playoff bracket to fight for the second NA invite to the International and a place in the Wild Card competition.
