Virtus.pro to take part in ESL One Genting 2017

The European qualifiers for ESL One Genting 2017 included 8 invited teams and 4 winners of open qualifiers. There was no group stage, instead, the competition began with the matches between winners of open qualifiers and four Tier 2 teams. The winners make it into the quarterfinals where they face Tier 1 teams, which were initially invited to start the competition from the quarterfinals.

The winners of the European qualifiers – Virtus.pro – started their way through the competition as a Tier 2 team and played against CIS-team from open qualifiers called DX (Øxn, Scandal, Ax.Mo, Miposhka and Sh4dowehhh). Later they faced Escape, and then in the semifinals, they played against Ad Finem who previously outplayed Team Liquid in their quarterfinals.

The second team to take part in the qualifiers finals was OG – the only invited team of Tier 1 who managed to make it past the quarterfinals (for the first two rounds of the closed qualifiers, 7 out of 8 matches were won by Tier 2 teams - Prodota Gaming, Vega Squadron, Virtus.pro and Ad Finem).

The final game was best-of-5, VP won the first two maps without any difficulties. OG did not give up and won two maps in a row. Unfortunately, being only one step away from the victory they did not manage to see it through. None of the maps lasted more than 33 minutes. Both teams showed an excellent game, and we can congratulate Virtus.Pro upon a brilliant victory!

ESL One Genting qualifiers were divided into 5 regions: Europe, China, Malaysia, South-East Asia, and the Americas. In the American qualifiers, complexity was crashed by Team NP, the participants for other regions are not known yet.
