Dota’s next Major tournament to be held in Manila
Valve Corporation announced details of the third Dota 2 Major that will take place in Manila, Philippines. The Manila Major will be held over June 3-12, with the main event scheduled to take place at the Mall of Asia Arena, serving as the last event before the annual International Dota 2 Championships, which is set to happen this August in Seattle.
Following serious production issues at the Shanghai Major earlier this year, Valve is under great pressure to deliver a quality experience for those watching at home. The chosen production company for the Manila Major will be PGL, who have had solid performances on hosting Counter-Strike: Global Offensive tournaments in the SEA region.
The tournament will feature sixteen total teams, twelve of which are directly invited and four will come from the Regional Qualifiers. A total of 40 teams will compete in the Regional Qualifiers on May 3-6, with 8 slots reserved for the winners of Open Qualifiers that are set to start on April 29th.
Prize pool of the tournament is $3 million and will be distributed as follows:
- 1st place - $1,110,000
- 2nd place - $405,000
- 3rd place - $315,000
- 4th place - $225,000
- 5-6th places - $202,000
- 7-8th places - $105,000
- 9th - 12th places - $45,000
- 13th - 16th places - $30,000
The first invites went out to the teams that finished TOP 8 at the Shanghai Major: Team Secret, Team Liquid, Evil Geniuses, MVP.Phoenix, compLexity Gaming, Fnatic, OG, and Alliance.
The rest of the four invites were given to: ViCi Gaming Reborn – the winners of StarLadder i-League Invitational; Wings Gaming – the winners of ESL One Manila; Na’Vi – who have been performing really impressive lately, grabbing the runner-up place at StarLadder; and LGD Gaming – one of the most stable performing teams in China for the past year.
